We try to accommodate as many players as we can in our matchplay and ONEMATCH events although on occasions we have to limit the number of players accepted into an event, in order to keep sessions to a manageable size. In a standard matchplay event there must be at least THREE applicants of the same rating in order for that rating category to be considered.
In ONEMATCH events, a minimum of TWO players of the same rating are needed.
Where there are too many players of the same rating, then selections are made according to each player's TSUK Matchplay History Grade (MHG). Using a
banded grading system, non-appearances and withdrawals (including players who
retire from their first match in any event in the TennisUK One-Day Event Programme), will be less favourably considered.
Players who apply for events and do not get selected will be more favourably
considered. The system will operate in a similar manner to credit scoring and
each player will be allocated a Matchplay History Grade ("MHG") on a
weekly basis according to their recent history in the TennisUK One-Day event programme (including FAST4 events and LTA Winter County Tour event). Players with
the highest grade will be selected first, followed by the 2nd highest grade and
so on. Players of the same grade will be split according to application date
and time.
Where we have to decide between accepting one ratings group over another, we take the average MHG of the players in each group into account and consider also when players of that rating category were last accepted for an event.
